Phyllis Thistlewood - Light the Way,
Thistlewood comes to Light The Way, Inc., with a 38-year
administrative background in a community mental health setting. In
October of 2006, she attended the Corporation for Supportive Housing
Institute and received 8 months of training on financing, developing and
operating supportive housing to help end homelessness for people with
special needs and who are at risk of being homeless. It has been her
passion and long-time dream to see housing obtained for people in the
community with these needs. Hence, Haven House, a 14-unit apartment
complex was built and is now filled with residents and operating for the
purpose it was built. Also, since that time, Light the Way,
Inc.has expanded to 8 additional "Open Doors" properties in the
community for homeless individuals.
Phyllis and her husband, Bill, have
been married for 33 years and live in Paducah. She spends most of her days
in Metropolis at work or in church activities at the Community of Christ in
the Metropolis Community. Her 3 sisters, brother and their families all live
and work in the Metropolis area, and she and her entire family are invested
in the Metropolis Community and believe in giving back to make the community
a better place to live.
Phyllis gains much joy and
satisfaction from watching the residents enjoying their new homes and being
a part of helping them to achieve their goals and live life to the fullest.
She also enjoys working at Light The Way, Inc., with her co-workers and
really believes that she has a great team with the caring, compassion and
nurturing skills they have to offer.
